His participation at the XLIV VENICE BIENNALE - APERTO 90 and his solo show "Un lungo viaggio immobile" held at the Querini Stampalia Foundation of Venice in the year 2002, are some of his most significative exhibitions. https://www.facebook.com/mauro.sambo2 With a lucky and moving coup de théâtre, during the night of Mauro Sambo’s performance at Teatro Fondamenta Nuove in Venice, the snow in the video that hypnotized the audience has been matched by a strong snowfall just outside the door, only few steps away. Almost a signal that something magic could happen and that it were happening then and there, as concerns music, which finds its reason to unfold in the urgency of the moment. Something magic was happening indeed, because this work by Mauro Sambo manages to put together different layers of sound in an almost necessary way: the droning physicality of sounds finds a deep expressive counterpart in a regular percussive pulse (achieved with a drum machine), allowing the pneumatic work of the soprano saxophone - sometimes torn, but never lacking of comforting flares- to emerge like a seam, whose colored thread you risk to follow, forgetting how much the needle has had to penetrate into the skin to do that. It’s a work that succeeds in the little miracle of bringing together the ritual and the abstract, the nature and the machine, that apparent slowing down of the senses under a blanket of sound and snow, where at the same time there is a hidden celebration of musical dancing molecules. A miniaturized journey, and once it’s undertaken we risk to find a piece of ourselves under that snow. Enrico Bettinello (music critic and director of Teatro Fondamenta Nuove) Con un colpo di scena fortuito quanto emozionante, la sera della performance di Mauro Sambo al Teatro Fondamenta Nuove di Venezia, alla neve del video che ha ipnotizzato il pubblico corrispondeva una forte nevicata anche fuori della porta, solo pochi passi più in là. Quasi un segnale che qualcosa di magico potesse accadere e stesse proprio accadendo lì e ora, come si conviene alla musica che nell’urgenza  del momento trova la ragione per dispiegarsi. Qualcosa di magico stava effettivamente accadendo. Perché questo lavoro di Mauro Sambo ha la capacità di mettere insieme piani sonori differenti in modo quasi necessario: la matericità ronzante dei suoni trova in una pulsazione percussiva regolare (elaborata con una drum machine) un profondo contraltare espressivo, permettendo al lavoro pneumatico del sax soprano – talvolta lacerato, ma mai privo di bagliori di conforto – di emergere come una cucitura di cui a volte ci si perde a seguire il filo colorato, dimenticando quanto l’ago ha dovuto penetrare nella pelle per farlo. È un lavoro che riesce nel piccolo miracolo di unire il rituale e l’astratto, la natura e la macchina, quel rallentamento apparente dei sensi sotto una coltre di suono e di neve che in realtà nasconde una festa di molecole musicali che danzano.
